Trying to land the job?

Brooks Household Staffing is always on the lookout for dedicated and experienced applicants. Our goal is to provide top-level service through hiring the most qualified candidates to serve our families. We know how competitive this market can be—especially in a rapidly growing city like Nashville. That’s exactly why we have put together this need-to-know list of tips to help you land the perfect job.

Before getting in to the specifics of the application process, we need to address the three most important qualities in successful candidates:

1. Professionalism: This one doesn’t need much explanation. If you are interested in breaking into or continuing your career in the household staffing market, professionalism is the cover charge. This applies to speech, dress, and correspondence etiquette.

2. Eagerness: As much as we encourage professional etiquette, we also want to see your excitement for the position you are applying for. Attitude makes all the difference—we aren’t hiring robots for a reason! Don’t be afraid to tell us what draws you to the position you’re applying for. We want to know you are as excited as we are to serve our Nashville families!

3. Responsiveness: This is our hidden gem of advice. Respond to each email and phone call promptly and professionally. Responding quickly lets us know that you are reliable and ready to work.

Applying

Along with making sure you have the right materials, we expect our applicants to closely follow application instructions. It seems obvious, but failing to carefully read the requirements can seriously jeopardize your chances of getting hired. We’re here to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Resume

To get started, you’ll need an updated resume with all relevant skills and experience. Your resume does not need to be crafted by a graphic designer. It should be clear and concise with each previous positions listed out in an easy-to-read format. Be sure to highlight any special skills (i.e. certifications, fluency in other languages, volunteer experience). We want to know what makes you unique, while also understanding the relevance of your past experiences. If the position requires a cover letter, that is a great space for you to go into deeper detail.

References

As part of your application, it’s important to compile a few references that can speak to your character and abilities. We suggest 2-3 former employers who won’t mind being contacted by our agency. You should also consider asking for a formal letter of recommendation from a previous employer who you believe will represent you the best. Make sure these materials are as up to date as possible.

Photo

A key piece of your portfolio is a current photo. While this does not have to be a professional photo, we do ask that you look professional in the picture! Working alongside families is highly personal, and it is vital for families to be able to see who they are considering hiring. While this can seem intimidating, it’s a great way to personalize your application by flashing a smile!

Details, Details, Details

Bringing the right attitude and a polished portfolio to the table is important, but don’t stop there! Remember, your presentation on paper is just as important as your online presentation. While we don’t perform initial internet screenings on candidates, keep in mind that a potential employer will likely search you on social media. Consider updating your LinkedIn to reflect your current profession and privatizing your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts. This ensures that an employer’s first impression comes from your portfolio, not your weekend photos.

We want you to land a job as much as you do—we pride ourselves in finding outstanding candidates for our households. Following these steps will get you headed in the right direction.
